Sports a India are cricket, chess, badminton, hockey, tennis, association football and golf. Hockey is the official national sport in India and has eight Olympic gold medals in field hockey, cricket is the most popular. Other popular sports are football, tennis, volleyball and badminton. Post-1982 Asian Games hosted in New Delhi, the capital now has modern sports facilities and similar facilities are also developed in other parts of the country. In addition to sports and games included in the international sporting agenda, there are many that have evolved in India.


 

Across the country a wide variety of sports are played. India is home to many traditional sports which originated in the country and remain very popular. These include Kabba, kho kho and Gilli-Danda pehlwani. The British government has many other popular sports in India, including football, rugby, cricket, golf, tennis, squash, hockey, boxing, billiards and snooker.
 

India has organized or co-hosted several international sporting events like the 1951 Asian Games and Asian Games 1982, Cricket World Cup 1987 and 1996 Cricket World Cup, the 2003 Afro-Asian Games, 2010 World Cup of Hockey, the 2010 Commonwealth Games and World Cup Cricket 2011.

The sports most important international events held annually in India are Chennai Open, Mumbai Marathon, Half Marathon and teachers Delhi India. India also plans to introduce the first Indian Grand Prix in 2011. India is also home to the Indian Premier League cricket, which was launched in 2008, and the fourth season of Indian Premier League began April 8, 2011.

The history of sports in India dates back to the Vedic period. Physical culture in ancient India was fueled by a powerful fuel: religious right's. There were some well-defined values that mantra in the Atharva-Veda, saying, "Duty is in my right hand and the fruits of victory in my left." As for an ideal, these words hold the same sentiments as the traditional Olympic oath: ". In honor of my country and the Glory of Sport"

Badminton is likely to come from grown-up version of India is a very old children's game known in England and badminton racket, paddle, paddle and fly a small feathered cork, now usually referred to as "Bird."

Sports a like chess, Snakes and Ladders, playing cards, polo, the sport originated in India and that is where these games were transmitted to other countries that have modernized.
