The Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus, headquarters of the Central

transport in Mumbai. Most people in Mumbai rely on public
transport to travel to and from their workplaces. Transportation
systems in Mumbai are the commuter train, BEST buses, taxis,
auto rickshaws, ferries, hovercraft, and aircraft.
The city is the headquarters of two zones railway - the
Central Railway (CR) based at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus
(formerly Victoria Terminus) and the Western Railway (WR)
headquarters near Churchgate. The backbone of the city, transport,
railways suburb of Mumbai, is composed of three separate networks
along the city, in a north-south direction. The Western Railway
runs along the west of the city, while the Central Railway
covers most of the central and northern regions of the metropolis.These
two lines extending into the exurbs, each covering a total
one-way length of about 125km. The Port Line is a sub-division
of the Central Railway, which covers a distance of 54 km (34
miles) along the south-eastern section of the city, near the
docks, and extend in Navi Mumbai ( New Bombay). The subway
in Mumbai is a subway and elevated railway system that is
currently under construction. It will run from Versova in
Andheri at Ghatkopar in the first phase is completed in 2009.
Mumbai is well connected to most parts of India by the Indian
Railways. Trains from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus,Dadar,Lokmanya
Tilak Terminus, Mumbai Central and Bandra terminus. Mumbai
suburban rail systems to transport a total of 2.2 billion
passengers every year,one third of the world's population.
Better bus Public buses run by BEST (an autonomous body under
the BMC) covers almost all parts of the metropolis, as well
as parts of Thane and Navi Mumbai. The buses are used for
switching in the short and medium distances, while train tickets
are more economical for the long haul will be commuted. BEST
manages a total of 3400 buses, 4.5 million passengers carrying
more than 340 routes. Its fleet consists of a single-stage,
two-stage, vestibule, low-floor and air-conditioned buses.
BEST launched disabled friendly 'exclusivity on the bus routes
that have little ramps for wheelchairs and space.
