Taoism
The religious movement which succeeded Confucianism is one
of the most important events in Chinese history. Taoism founded
by Lao Tzu (570 BC), marks the beginning of the "Science".
The word "Tao" means "path" or "order".
It is synonymous with "natural". Taoism tried to
conceive the nature in terms of the cosmic order, rather than
those of God's creation by god or gods. He acknowledged the
unity and spontaneity in nature. Taoists have also stressed
the need to "find the causes" of things and events.
Indeed, "finding the cause" is their slogan. This
willingness to find causes allowed them to engage in their
view, constitute a spiritual need. In other words, investigation
of the nature and the acquisition of knowledge is a source
of peace of mind. Thus, the Taoist come to attach spiritual
value to scientific knowledge. The Taoist in their investigations
always paid attention to the "change" in nature.
According to them, knowledge must explain the change and transformation
in nature. That's why so early in the history of science they
come to develop a theory of biological evolution. Even non-biological
world has been treated as an evolving phenomenon. Also, Taoism
developed a tantric tradition. Like the Indian tantric tradition
to the development of theoretical physics of natural philosophy,
Taoism tantrism also helped the growth of natural philosophy
in china.
Other School of Thought
After Taoism different schools of thought emerged, each of which
has contributed to the growth of science and scientific thought.
The Mohist school founded by Mo Ti (479-381 BC) and the School
of logicians thought to the nature and type of scientific method,
the relationship between cause and effect, the application of
mathematical the quantification of the nature and many other
issues logic. They also had their own ideas and atoms of infinity,
and thought "atomism" as such has been introduced
only at a later Mohists and Logicians.
Naturalism
But the biggest impetus to science in China was given by the
naturalist thinkers. The father of this school, "Naturalism
was Tsou Yen (350-270 BC), the real founder of all Chinese scientific
thought. Two theories constitute the basic principles of the
school naturalist. They are (1) the five elements of the theory
and (2) Yin and yang theory. According to the theory of five
elements of everything in this world is made up of five elements
namely water, fire, wood and metal from the earth. In others,
such as the Indian civilization where five is spoken element
of the theory, we have air and void in place of wood and metal.
These elements are not core subjects, but also for fundamental
processes. The naturalists tried to track all changes to five
natural interaction processes represented by the five elements
interact. The analogy with chemistry, many followers of the
"theory of five elements" were chemists.
The Yin-Yang Theory arrtibutes the origin and evolution of
the nature of the union of Yin and Yang, who are the male
and female principles respectively. So bias biological worth
noting. The theory is not because animist Yin and Yang are
principles and not gods. Both still exist, but sometimes dominates
Yin and Yang dominates sometimes.
(Taoism or Taoism refers to a variety of related Chinese
philosophical and religious traditions and concepts. These
traditions have influenced East Asia for more than two thousand
years, and some have spread internationally. Decorum and ethics
Taoist emphasize the three jewels of the Tao: compassion,
moderation, humility. Focuses on Taoist thought wu wei ( "non-action"),
spontaneity, humanism, and emptiness. The emphasis is on the
relationship between man and nature. Taoism teaches that this
link reduces the need for rules and order, and leads to a
better understanding of the world. The Chinese Tao (or Dao,
as the romanization system) means "the way" or "path",
in Chinese, but religion and philosophy it has taken on more
abstract meanings. Tao is rarely an object of worship, to
be treated more like concepts Indians atman and dharma. The
word "Taoism is used to translate the various terms Chinese.
Daojiao / Taochiao ( "lessons / religion of Dao")
refers to Taoism as religion. Daojia / Taochia ( "School
of Dao") refers to the studies scholars, "or"
philosophical Taoism. However, most researchers have abandoned
the dichotomy of "religious" and "philosophical"
Taoism.
Most traditional Chinese Taoists are polytheists. Nature
and common ancestor spirits are also popular in Taoism. Organized
Taoism distinguishes his work from that of ritual popular
religion, as some professionals Taoists (Daoshi) seen as debased.
This kind of shamanism is avoided focus on the internal alchemy
among the "elites" Taoist.Chinese alchemy, astrology,
cooking, several Chinese martial arts, traditional Chinese
medicine, fengshui and many styles of qigong breathing training
disciplines are intertwined with Taoism throughout history.)
