Vivekananda In West
Vivekananda was encouraged by J.H. Wright, a professor of
Greek at Harvard University, to represent in the Hindu 1893
World Parliament of Religions in Chicago. When he expressed
says he had no authority, the teacher replied, "For you,
Swami, your powers, it was asked as the sun on its right to
shine. He wrote about Vivekananda chairman of the Commission
for the selection of delegates, "Here is a man who learned
most of all our professors combined.
Vivekananda was well received at the Parliament of Religions,
where he a series of lectures. The audience was brought to
their seats and loud applause (two minutes), when he first
began his address with the famous words: "Sisters and
brothers of America." When the applause subsided the
Swami began his speech by thanking the young nation "in
the name of the oldest monastic order in the world, Vedic
ordered by sannyasins." One newspaper described him as
"an orator by divine right and undoubtedly the greatest
figure in the Parliament." Vivekananda arrival in the
United States has been identified by many to mark the beginning
of Western interest in Hinduism not only as an exotic Eastern
oddity, but as an essential religious and philosophical traditions
that might be something important to learn the West
Vivekananda successfully introduced yoga and Vedanta in the
West around America and lectured presenting themes (1894-6).
He taught privately hundreds of students in classes held in

Christian missionaries of what it was fiercely critical. After
four years of tours, lectures and seminars in the West, he
returned to India in the year 1897.
The admirers and fans Vivekananda gave an enthusiastic response
to his return to India. In India, he has delivered a series
of lectures, and this lecture series called "Reading
at Colombo Almora" is seen as raising the morale of the
oppressed at that time Indian society. He was the founder
of one of the largest rescue missions charitable, the Ramakrishna
Mission and reorganized the old Swami order by one of the
founders of the most significant and largest monastic orders
in India, the Ramakrishna Math.
However, he had to endure a lot of criticism from other orthodox
Hindus for having travelled to the West. In her time there
was barely a Hindu in America and he received criticism for
crossing the ocean, at that time a cause for "outcasting."
Vivekananda scoffed at the criticism of orthodoxy by saying
"I can not be a pariah - As a monk, I am beyond caste".
His contemporaries also questioned his motives, wondering
whether fame and the glory of his Hindu evangelism compromise
its origin monastic vows. His enthusiasm for America and Britain,
and his devotion to his spiritual homeland, has led to serious
tensions in recent years.
He once again the turn of the west, from January 1899 to
December 1900. He instilled a spirit of respect and goodwill
for trade between East and West. He had disciples American

have been since then.
