Wanderings in India
Soon, the young monk of Baranagore wanted to live the life
of a wandering monk in rags and begging bowl and not other
property. In July 1890, Vivekananda set out on a long journey
without knowing where the journey would take him. The journey
that followed took him to the length and breadth of the Indian
subcontinent. During these days, Vivekananda assumed various
names like Vividishananda (in Sanskrit, Vividisha means "desire
to know" and Ananda means "happiness"), Satchidananda,…
It is said that the Maharaja of Khetri, Ajit Singh, has proposed
Vivekananda him the name because of his discernment of things,
good and bad. Viveka or discrimination between the eternal
and the ephemeral was highly appreciated by the Swami who
recalled that Keshab Chandra Sen used to call it by that name,
accepted it.
During those wanderings days, Vivekananda remained kings'
palace, and the huts of the poor. He came in close contact
with the culture of different regions of India and various
categories of persons in India. Vivekananda the imbalance
in society and the tyranny in the name of caste. He realized
the need for a national rejuvenation if India were to survive
at all. He reached Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of the
Indian subcontinent, December 24 1892. There he swam across
the sea and began to meditate on a rock solo. He meditated
for three days later and said he meditated on the past, present
and future of 'India. rock became the Vivekananda memorial
at Kanyakumari.

went to Madras and talked about his plans for India and Hinduism
for young men of Madras. They were impressed by the monk,
and urges him to go to the United States and represent Hinduism
in the World Parliament of Religions. The Raja of Ramnad,
who was originally invited to the conference, Vivekananda
promoted as the right person to represent the view of Hinduism
in the Parliament. Thus, assisted by his friends in Chennai,
Bhaskara Sethupathi, Raja Ramnad and Maharajas of Mysore and
Khetri, Vivekananda set out on his journey to the United States.
In one of its conferences in California, the swami described
his condition during the day wandering as follows:
I have been several times in the jaws of death, starvation,
feet, and weary, for days and days I had no food, and often
could not walk farther, I want to go down in a tree, and life
seems to be ebbing Away. I could not speak, I could hardly
believe, but finally returned to mind the idea: "I have
no fear, or death, I was never born, I never killed I was
never hungry or thirsty. I am It! I am It! The whole of nature
can overwhelm me, it is my servant. Affirmerons your strength,
your Lord of lords and the God of gods! Recover your lost
empire! Arise, walk and not to stop! "And I would like
to raise, Revigorée, and I am here today, alive! Thus,
whenever darkness comes, and affirm the reality, any injury
must disappear. After all, it is not realistic. Mountain-top
if difficulties arise terrible and dark when all things seem,
they are the Maya. Do not be afraid, and it is forbidden.
Crush, and it disappears. Stamp him, and he died.
