Birth and early life

Narendranath Dutta was born in Shimla Pally, Kolkata, India, on January 12, 1863 as the son of Viswanath and Bhuvaneswari Devi Dutta. Even as he was young, he showed a precocious mind and keen memory. He practiced meditation from a very early age. While in school, he was recognized early as an academic genius, and demonstrated excellence in games of all kinds. He had a photographic memory, displaying the power to read entire books in a few minutes. He organized an amateur theatre and a gymnasium and took courses in fencing, wrestling, rowing and other sports. He also studied music instrumental and vocal. Even when he was young, he questioned the validity of the customs and superstitions discrimination based on caste and religion.

In 1879, Narendra entered the Presidency College, Calcutta for higher studies. After a year, he joined the Scottish Church College, Calcutta and studied philosophy. During the course, he studied western logic, Western philosophy and the history of European nations.

Questions have begun to arise in the minds of young Narendra of God and God's presence. This made him associate with the Brahmo Samaj, a major religious movement at the time, led by Keshub Chunder Sen And with his comrade and friend Brajendra Nath Seal, he regularly attended meetings of the breakaway Sadharan Brahmo Samaj. Later they afford to participate himself to align Dutta Keshub Chunder Sen Nava Vidhan Seal and staying on as a member insider. During this time spent together, both Dutta Seal and sought to understand the subtleties of faith, progress and spiritual understanding of the works of John Stuart Mill, Auguste Comte, Herbert Spencer and GWF Hegel.

But Samaj congregational prayers and devotional chants could not satisfy Narendra zeal to realize God. He asks you Brahmo Samaj leaders if they have seen God. Their answers did not satisfy his quest for knowledge. During this period, the Rev. William Hastie, the director of the Scottish Church College told him about Sri Ramakrishna of Dakshineswar.

With Ramakrishna

Narendra met Ramakrishna for the first time in November 1881. Ramakrishna He asked the same old question, he asked other so often, "Mahashaya (venerable Sir), have you seen God?". The Ramakrishna instant response was: "Yes, I see God, just as I see you here, in a sense that a lot intenser." God can be achieved, "he added," we can see and talk with him as I am to see and talk to you. But who cares? People throw torrents of tears for their wives and children, wealth or property, but the fact that for God's sake? If we sincerely mourns for him, surely it occurs. ". Narendra was amazed and perplexed. He could feel the honest man and words were uttered by a depth of experience. He began to visit frequently Ramakrishna. Initially, it did not believe that such a man could Plain have seen God but gradually he began to have faith in what Ramkrishna said.

Although Narendra could not accept Ramakrishna and his visions, he could not ignore him. It has always been the nature Narendra something tested thoroughly before it can be accepted. He tested Ramakrishna maximum, but the captain was patient, indulgent, funny and loving. He never asked to abandon Narendra reason, and he faced Narendra all the arguments and examinations with patience. In the meantime, Narendra accepted Ramakrishna, and when he accepted, the acceptance was sincere. Although primarily Ramakrishna taught Bhakti duality and the other disciples, he taught the Narendra Advaita Vedanta, the philosophy of non-duality.

During his five years of training as part of Ramakrishna, Narendra has been transformed from a restlessness, confused, impatient youth to a mature man who was ready to renounce everything for the love of God-realization. Soon, late Ramakrishna came in the form of throat cancer in August 1886. After that Narendra and a core of followers of Ramakrishna took vows to become monks and renounce all, and began to live in a supposedly haunted house in Baranagore. They took alms to satisfy their hunger and their other needs were taken care of by followers of Ramakrishna householder richer.

Backed enrichment can only be achieved through education, a stable income and capital savings, a broader social perspective and a realization of the tribes that their future could be better than the current one.

In response to these and other needs, SVYM now runs a 10-bed hospital at Kenchanahalli in a bed of 40 Multi Speciality Hospital in Saragur.
