Dr.Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, was born on April 14, 1891. He was born in central India as the fourteenth child of parents who belong to the lowest caste in Indian society, which are known as the Dalits or untouchables. In 1908, Ambedkar passed the Matriculation examination at the University of Bombay. A graduate of Elfinstone College, Bombay in 1912, he joined Columbia University, where he earned a doctorate, he has published in book form as "The History of British India in finance." Later, he joined the London School of Economics and is a graduate of D.Sc, for his thesis, "The problem of the rupee." He became professor of political economy at the Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics, in Bombay in 1918.



In 1920, he started a Marathi weekly paper called "Mooknayak 'to the cause of the depression in prices. He attended the Conference of classes in March the same year, under the chairmanship of Chatrapati Sahu Maharaj at Kolhapur. He subsequently resigned as a professor at Sydenham College to resume his studies in London. He returned to India in April 1923 and began to practice in the High Court in Bombay. He also participated in the round table conference that the three occurred in London to allow representatives of different Indian communities and the three British political parties to consider proposals for the future Constitution of India. He founded the "Bahishkrit Hitkarini Sabha" on July 20, 1924 to improve depression courses. objectives of the Sabha were Educate, Agitate, Organize.

 

He opened a reception center for untouchable students in Barshi. He was appointed as a member of the Legislative Council of Bombay in 1926. He started Satyagraha Mahad, a place in the District Kolaba untouchable to ensure the right of access to Chavdar Tank. He also started Kalram Temple Satyagraha, Nasik for the right of entry into the temple by the untouchables.

(Dr.B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), formerly known as Andhra Pradesh Open University, is located in the city of Hyderabad. With a wide network of 200 study centers spread throughout the state of Andhra Pradesh, the University has for its motto "Education at Your Doorstep". The University, the first of its kind in the Country was brought into being through an act of Andhra Pradesh State Legislature in August,1982.

Dr BRAOU follows a multi-media education learning which largely self-study of print media, supported by audio, video and lessons regular dissemination of lessons through All India Radio. From November 1999, the University began Telecast lessons of the video through the channel Doordarshan Regional.
